Softball Skills and Drills are BACK!
My name is Janet Owens. I’ve played softball for 10+ years for the Steubenville Catholic Schools as well as in recreational and co-ed softball leagues. My daughter, Madison, is in 8th grade at Madonna Junior High and plays travel and recreational softball who is coached by my husband, Dave. It’s our intent to host 6 sessions where the middle school girls from Madonna Junior High, St. Paul School and St. Joseph School can participate in softball skills and drills activities for FREE to better hone their foundational softball skills. The goal of this camp is to bring the softball girls together to bond as a team, to enhance their skills / techniques and most importantly to gain interest in eventually participating as a member of Weirton Madonna’s fastpitch softball team.
We will have experienced fastpitch coaches as well as current Madonna softball players available to work with the girls on their skills. We will be hosting these sessions either at Weirton Madonna’s softball field near Starvaggi Park or the Madonna Athletic Complex (MAC) behind Starvaggi Industries at the bottom of Pennsylvania Avenue depending upon weather and availability. We are fortunate to have the MAC because it allows us the ability to work on our skills during the months when we can’t practice outside. Please note that the MAC has turf fields so NO CLEATS.
If your athlete is interested, can you please let us know by April 28th so we can have a better understanding of how many girls plan to attend. I will create a text group with the phone numbers if you can provide that to me. If you prefer to add additional members to the communications or update your contact information, please let me know. We will also be communicating information about the softball activities at the Weirton Catholic School and online so please spread the word. If you know of other girls interested in softball regardless of what school they attend, please encourage them to attend.
I’ve included the schedule for the skills and drills sessions which will be from 6-7:30PM at Weirton Madonna’s softball field. Please mark your calendars.
