On Saturday, February 7th, Madonna High School sent its first group of musicians to compete in the West Virginia Music Educators Associations Solo and Ensemble contest.

The four students who attended are:

  • Senior Emily Fournier sang “Voi che sapete” from Mozart’s Opera The Marriage of Figaro. She received a superior rating.
  • Junior Bailey Roberts sand “Danny Boy” an old Irish folk song. She received and excellent rating.
  •  Freshman Kristen Van Camp performed an arrangement of Erik Satie’s “Gymnopedie” on clarinet. She received an excellent rating.
  •  Freshman Josh Bennett performed Chopin’s Op. 64 #2 (the Rubenstein) on piano. He received a superior with honors rating.

This is the first time in the history of Madonna High School that students have entered the Solo and Ensemble contest. The students are pictured left to right Josh Bennett, Kristen Van Camp, Bailey Roberts, and Emily Fournier.
