On Thursday, April 12th and Friday, April 13th, Madonna seniors and juniors had the opportunity to participate and observe a mock crash and trial before prom and graduation season begins.
Thursday, the Sadd Club, under the direction of Mrs. Chartier, and with the assistance of Gold Khourey & Turak, Attorneys at Law, conducted a mock crash to remind students about the dangers of drinking and driving. Students actually role played the parts of a drunk driver and victims with one of the victims being life flighted. Participating in the role playing were Lonni Riggs, Andrea Alimario, Alec Cook, Gabby Staffilino and Addie Backel. A special thank you to the Weirton Police, Fire, EMS Services, and the Helicopter Team for helping to make today’s event as real as possible.
Friday, Madonna students learned some important lessons today as they attended the mock trial in the federal court house presided over by Madonna graduate Judge Mazzone. The court case was a follow-up to the mock crash with students assuming roles to present the case as a real court case. The jury of Madonna students found the defendant guilty of drunk driving with Judge Mazzone giving a sentence of 15 years.
Thank you to everyone who made this special event happen for our students.
