This Saturday, February 7th, Madonna High School will send its first group of students to compete in the West Virginia Music Educators Associations Solo and Ensemble contest.

Solo and Ensemble is open to all regional High School and Middle School students of the northern panhandle of West Virginia. The event gives students a chance to compete for an invitation to perform at the state convention in front of secondary, college, and other music educators from the state of West Virginia.

This event also provides the students with an avenue to demonstrate their abilities in front of their peers that attend other schools, network with other musicians in the area, and gives them an evaluation from adjudicators whom are often college professors and professionals in their field.

The four students attending are: Senior Emily Fournier singing “Voi che sapete” from Mozart’s Opera Figaro, Junior Bailey Roberts singing “Danny Boy” an old Irish folk song, Freshman Kristen Van Camp performing an arrangement of Erik Satie’s “Gymnopedia” on clarinet, and Freshman Josh Bennett performing Chopin’s Op. 64 #2 (the Rubenstein) on piano.

The students were asked to attend by their teacher here at Madonna, J. Matthew White, who is a member of the National Association of Music Educators.

Good luck to the musicians!!
