Mr. Colabrese is originally from Belle Vernon, Pa. and graduated from Belle Vernon Area High School 1970. He received a BS in Secondary Education from West Virginia University in 1976 and an MS in Learning Disabilities from WVU in 1984. He also has 60+ hours beyond the Masters, predominantly in science, professional and curriculum development. He is married to Catherine and has four children: Bethsandra, Michael, Kristofer, and Heather.
He has worked at Pocahontas County Schools and Hancock County Schools. He was the Athletic Director and Activities Coordinator from 1985 to 1990 at Weir High School. He has been at Madonna High School since 2009. His professional development activities include: Project Wet, Project Wild, Ruralnet, Coordinated and Thematic Science (CATS) training, Ohio River Camp, Rock Camps 1, 2 and 5; The Mountain Institute (2 years). His Professional and Community Activities include Weir High Environmental Science Club Sponsor (1995-2010) and Weir High Envirothon Team Sponsor (1997 -2008); Madonna High School Environmental Science Club Sponsor 2010 – 2012 Mr. Colabrese received several awards including: West Virginia Division of Natural Resources 1999-2000 West Virginia State High School Environmental Teaching Award; The President’s Council on Environmental Quality: Environmental Teaching Award – High School – 2000 (President Clinton); The 2001, 2002 Northern Panhandle Conservation District Secondary Teacher of the Year; and The West Virginia 2002 Sygenta/NACD Conservation Education Award Secondary Teacher of the Year.
